Most people picture IVF as weeks of injections, scans, and hormone medication. But that’s not the only way to do it. Natural Cycle IVF at Dr. Mazen IVF takes a different route. We work with the single egg your body already produces on its own each month, and we use little to no hormonal medication to get there. It’s quietly become one of the go-to options for natural cycle IVF in Dubai, especially for women whose bodies don’t respond well to stimulation drugs, or who’ve been told they have a low ovarian reserve.
Many patients walk into our clinic having read about mini IVF in Dubai or low stimulation IVF online, unsure which one actually applies to them. Fair enough, the terms do overlap a bit. So let’s go through what Natural Cycle IVF really involves, who it tends to suit, and what the process looks like once you get started.
What Is Natural Cycle IVF?
Every cycle, your body grows one egg on its own, no medication required. In Natural Cycle IVF, we just track that egg as it matures, then collect it, fertilize it in the lab, and transfer the resulting embryo back into your uterus. There’s no stimulation drug pushing your ovaries to work harder than they normally would, which is why some people call it unstimulated IVF.
Compare that to conventional IVF, where daily injections coax the ovaries into producing a whole batch of eggs at once. Natural Cycle IVF skips that step entirely. We’re not trying to change what your body is already doing. We’re just paying close attention to it.
How the Process Actually Unfolds
Start to finish, from your first scan to embryo transfer, a Natural Cycle IVF cycle usually runs about 15 to 20 days. It’s not a quick weekend fix, but it’s shorter and lighter than most people expect.
We begin around day 3 or 4 of your cycle with an ultrasound and a blood test. Over the next week or so, roughly 6 to 9 days, we keep checking in on that single follicle as it grows. About a day and a half before we plan to retrieve the egg, you’ll get one trigger injection. Just one. Its job is simple, it makes sure the egg is fully mature and ready right when we need it.
Then comes the retrieval. A thin needle, guided by ultrasound, collects the egg while you’re under light sedation. It sounds intimidating on paper, but most patients tell us it’s over faster than they expected and far less uncomfortable than they’d braced for.
That same day, your partner provides a sperm sample. Because there’s only one egg in play, we don’t leave fertilization to chance. We use ICSI, where an embryologist selects one healthy sperm and injects it directly into the egg. It gives that single egg the best odds it can get.
If fertilization works out, the embryo goes back into the uterus, usually three to five days later. No sedation needed this time, and it’s a quick appointment. From there, we run blood tests to check your hormone levels and follow up with an ultrasound a couple of weeks after to confirm the pregnancy.
Natural Cycle IVF vs Mini IVF, What's Actually the Difference
We also run mini IVF programs in Dubai, and it sits in between Natural Cycle IVF and a full conventional cycle. Mini IVF uses small doses of oral or injectable medication, just enough to gently coax two to five eggs to grow instead of one. People often use the term low stimulation IVF for this, and honestly, it’s a fitting name.
Which one should you choose? If you’d rather steer clear of medication completely, Natural Cycle IVF is the gentler road. If you don’t mind a small amount of stimulation in exchange for a slightly better shot per cycle, mini IVF could be worth considering. There’s no one size fits all answer here. Our specialists will look at your hormone levels, your ovarian reserve, and your history with past treatments before pointing you toward whichever option makes sense for your situation.
